staff rooms - continue a short distance on the road to the
Steep rock stairs that climb through tea plants – across from the Grama Sevaka Niladari house. Climb the stairs to the upper road (If the steep stairs put your off you can also go on the road as described in walk #2). Turn right walking toward a sharp bend in the road. In the bend is a small forest path to the left as you head up the road. This path goes to the dam – can’t miss it because the leeches will be waving at you. This is a great place to swim and explore up stream If you have good balance on the rocks- but be careful! The water level in the dam is also very deep in places.

This is a longer walk then the first one, again turn to the left as you leave the front of the entrance of the bungalows. Walk along the road past the staff rooms at the steep steps you could go up or continue on the road around the bend to a small junction. This is the meeting point of 3 roads. Make the sharp turn to your right you will meet the stairs after a short distance – continue past the hair-pen turn where the forest path to the dam is and continue along the road.
Eventually, you will find that the tea has stopped and a rubber estate begins. Continuing you com to a clearing with volleyball area on the left – turn on the path to the right and shortly find a stream and two concrete bridges. Go
over the first bridge and up toward the white house on the hill above you. You will pass
several house on both sides
of the path . again you will meet the stream and have to cross over on the rocks – watch out for the slippery ones. Up
in front is another white house that you walk right up to and turn left toward the small hydro power house . Walking
on you meet the same volleyball clearing and from there you can see the upper water falls. From the volleyball
Clearing you can continue on the same road to return back to the Plantation Bungalows. |

Right. The road winds through tea estate and eventually brings you to a
New house built
On the edge of the hillside.
The house is turquoise blue with
Lost of windows – you can’t miss it
And it is the only house
Around. Pass in front of the
House and along a tiny path that
Leads down to a lovely jungle stream.
It has some good swimming

Exit the Bungalow and turn to the right – pass over the bridge
and past a small shop on the right. After a short distance is a set of
stone steps on the left heading to an old rubber factory. The trees
here are a combination of rubber and cocoa. Near the entrance
gate to the rubber factory there is another set of stone steps
heading up hill. At the top of the hill is another set of buildings
to the rubber estate. Facing these buildings from the steps turn to
the right on a path through the rubber trees
(lost of leeches here after a rain) a small path leads through
the trees and then down toward a road.
At the road, turn left, return to the factory, and back to the Plantation
Bungalows.
It is an easy walk but could be longer if taking the left turn at the
buildings. This path is still unexplored and might lead to the bridges
mentioned in walk #2 |

Walk #5 – Beli Lena Archeological 1.5 to 2 hour walking time. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Description :- |
|
|
Leaving the Bungalows turn to the right over the bridge and stay on the
paved road for almost 1 Km or about ½ hour walking time. The sing for
the Beli Lena site is well marked. Turn from the main paved road at the
sigh and go up toward the school about ½ Km. It is easy to ask as you go
and there are sings. Alternatively, you can drive to the school area and
park then walk to the site. |

Walk #6 – Tea, forest and coconut paths to the village of Mahabage-
Duration of walk about 1.5 to 2 hours, bring some water. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Description :- |
|
|
Start as in Walk #2 – turning left at the entrance to the bungalows and past
the staff rooms. At the place where the there roads meet – take the smaller
road down to the left. It winds around tea for awhile then becomes a forest
path meeting with a suspension bridge that has some real character. It
may put you off if you are afraid of rickety partially covered bridges – still
it is fun to cross over just watch your step. When you get over the bridge
turn left, walking next to a small stream, begin a trail that has rubber on
the left side and coconut trees on the right. This trail leads up a hill that
meets with several large black rocks – the path continues over the rock s to the top of the hill and down in to the village of Mahabage. This will also
meet up with another road – it is best to return the way you come. |
